FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL OF THE POLISH RADIO "NOWA TRADYCJA" Folk Music Festival of the Polish Radio "Nowa Tradycja" ("New Tradition") was created in 1998 by the Folk Culture Radio Centre whose head is Maria Baliszewska. It takes place every year in April in the W. Lutosławski Concert Studio in Warsaw. The aim of the Festival is promotion of Polish music based on traditional sources but arranged in a new manner which is more familiar to a contemporary listener. The Festival has generally a form of a competition, but also the best artists from Poland and abroad are invited to perform (e.g. "Trigon", "Besh O'Drom", "La Musgana", Sinikka Langeland and Annbjorg Lien). During "Nowa Tradycja" two competitions take place - one for performers and the other for the award of the "Folk Phonogram of he Year" (since 2002, in the years 1998-2001 this competition was organised during the Festival "Mikołajki Folkowe"). In 2001 the title of "Folk Phonogram" was given to the album "Pieśni i melodie na rozmaite święta" ("Songs and Melodies for Various Holidays") of the Brodas' Group, in 2002 to a CD "A w niedziela rano" ("And on Sunday Morning") by Tołhaje, and in 2003 to the album "Art.pl" of the group "Swoją Drogą". |
